Nissan Sentra enters its 9th generation, launched in the US

Remember when the first images of the all-new Nissan Sentra/Sylphy got leaked? Well, the cat is officially out of the bag, as the Japanese automaker has unveiled the next-generation compact sedan.

This is the 2026 Nissan Sentra, and boy, did it get one heck of a glow-up. Recently revealed for the US market, the ninth-generation Sentra gets a sleeker and bolder appearance inside & out, along with plenty of new technologies.

Beginning with the most obvious, Nissan says the designers had three words in mind when designing the 2026 Sentra: daring, vitalizing, and resonating. While it may not be obvious at first, it appears the all-new Nissan Sentra got some inspiration from Peugeot (or Renault) with its more dynamic appearance and sharp curves. The front fascia gets a pair of eye-catching LED headlights with distinct lighting signatures, and a heavily redesigned V-Motion grille that's paired with a low-slung bumper.

Despite being a sedan, Nissan gave the all-new Sentra a sloping roofline, which gives it a more aerodynamic shape. The short deck, combined with the shape of the trunk & rear fenders, allows for better air flow to reduce the rear wake behind the vehicle. On the other hand, the side mirrors and smaller wheel wells were specifically designed to reduce drag on the vehicle.

Last but not least, the 2026 Sentra comes with a pair of thin LED taillights with a central light bar, three wheel choices (16, 17, and 18 inches), and a host of exterior colors, including: Aspen White, Atlantic Gray Metallic, Fresh Power, Gun Metallic, Imperial Bronze, Scarlet Ember, and Super Black.

Hop inside, and the 2026 Sentra welcomes occupants into a high-tech yet relaxing cabin. Soft touchpoints surround the cabin while a pair of high-definition displays stand proud on the dashboard. Both screens measure 12.3 inches, but one serves as the digital instrument cluster, while the other is the touchscreen infotainment system, complete with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto.

There's also a new touch-sensitive panel for the climate control system, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, a host of USB-C charging ports, a new two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather upholstery with contrast stitching on higher-grade models, a wireless charging pad, a 64-color LED ambient lighting, a power sunroof, and a 360-degree camera system.

Under the hood, the 2.0L MR20DD naturally-aspirated inline-four has been carried over and continues to make 151 PS and 198 Nm of torque. Unlike other compact sedans, which are now available with turbocharged or hybrid powertrains, the 2026 Sentra only comes with one engine option. Power is then transferred to an upgraded XTronic CVT that Nissan says will deliver a smoother and more natural acceleration.

While the engine remains the same, Nissan was busy giving the Sentra some mechanical upgrades via a reinforced unibody construction, a larger steering wheel damper that reduces road vibrations, and new shock absorber valving to help mute impact harshness from bumps.

For better peace of mind while on the road, the 2026 Nissan Sentra comes with intelligent driver aids. It comes in the form of intelligent cruise control, blind-spot intervention, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking & pedestrian detection, lane departure prevention, and high-beam assist. The USDM Sentr also comes with 10 airbags as standard.

With the 2026 Nissan Sentra now available in the US, could Nissan Philippines launch it in the country? Moreover, will it carry the Sentra name or the new Sylphy nomenclature?
