BMW reveals fourth generation X3, available in gas & diesel variants

BMW has been quite busy of late revealing refreshed and all-new models of some of its popular models. From the next-generation 1 Series to the updated M2 and M3, the German automaker has not been resting on its laurels.

Now, BMW has taken the covers off one of its latest generation crossovers. Say “hallo” to the 2025 BMW X3, and boy does it have one heck of a new look. Now on its fourth generation, the all-new X3 (codenamed G45) adopts a more futuristic look that appears to have been inspired by the XM.

Trading angular lines for smooth curves, the overall design of the all-new X3 gives the crossover a more futuristic look without forgetting its roots. Despite measuring 34mm longer than its predecessor (4755mm length), the all-new X3 still looks compact thanks to the monolithic look. It's also wider by 29mm which gives it a width of 1920mm while its height has been reduced by 60mm – resulting in a 1660mm height. The wheelbase, however, remains the same as it still measures 2856mm between the wheels.

It also gets a new dual kidney grille that varies in design, depending on the variant. Also worth mentioning are the new adaptive LED headlights with sharper LED daytime running lights, bold side skirts that highlight the crossover's width, a fixed panoramic glass roof, optional illuminated grille surround for that extra eye candy, sleek new LED taillights with a T-shaped graphic, and stylish new alloy wheels available in 18 to 21 inches.

Hop aboard and the all-new X3 now features BMW's latest design philosophy in designing interiors. Like most new BMWs today, the next-generation X3 gets the now-familiar curved display that houses the 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and the 14.9-inch infotainment system. Like the new 5 Series range, the new X3 also features the BMW Interaction Bar with wraparound lighting elements which can also be seen on the door panels. Wireless connectivity apps like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available in the 2025 BMW X3.

Under the hood, the X3 is available with electrified turbo-gas engines as well as turbo-diesel powertrains. Beginning with the former, the range starts 20 xDrive which makes 208 PS from a 2.0-liter turbo inline-four. Up next is the 30e xDrive plug-in hybird (PHEV) which consists of a 2.0L turbo that's paired with an electric motor that's housed within the 8-speed automatic gearbox. The result is a total system output of 299 PS and an electric range of up to 90 km based on the WLTP cycle.

Prefer a turbo-diesel? The X3 is also available with the 20d xDrive which consists of a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-four that makes 197 PS. A six-cylinder turbo-diesel will be offered in 2025 which will make more power and torque than the four-cylinder.

Serving as the most powerful engine option (for now at least) is the M50 xDrive. This gives the 2025 X3 a 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six that generates 398 PS and is hooked up to an all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. This gives the X3 M50 xDrive the ability to sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

Besides having one heck of an engine, the M50 variant will also be fitted with M Sport brakes, 20-inch M lightweight alloy wheels, an M Sport differential, adaptive M Sport suspension with electronically adjustable dampers, an M kidney grille, and a quad exhaust system.

With the all-new X3 set to become available in Europe and the US in Q4 of this year, we might see the next-generation crossover arrive in the country by next year. The only question now is, when will we see the all-new iX3?
