Toyota Hilux Travo-e to be called Hilux 4x4 BEV in PH

We already know that Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) plans to launch the all-new Hilux later this year. Not only did they confirm its eventual arrival, but we've already seen some regulatory approvals for its upcoming engines, which will most likely include the 1GD-FTV 2.8L and 2GD-FTV 2.4L turbo-diesels.

What we weren't expecting, however, was that TMP also plans to launch the battery electric vehicle (BEV) version of the all-new Hilux. Based on the Department of Energy's (DOE) updated list of recognized EVs, the Hilux Travo-e has been confirmed for the Philippines, and it will have a different name once it's revealed.

According to the DOE's listing, the electric Hilux will be called the Toyota Hilux 4x4 BEV. It will measure 5320mm long, 1855mm wide, and 1845mm tall. It also has a gross vehicle weight of 3,170 kg, which makes it heavier than your typical midsize pickup truck, thanks to the large battery pack.

Speaking of battery packs, the Hilux 4x4 BEV will be powered by a 59.2 kWh battery, the same one that powers the Thai-spec version. More importantly, the pickup truck has a maximum electric power output of 129.3 kWh or 176 PS. This is 20 PS less than what the Thai-spec Hilux 4x4 BEV makes, which makes us curious why the Philippine-spec gets fewer horsepower.

Once revealed for the Philippine market, the Hilux 4x4 BEV will likely come with several more features. These include 11 kW AC charging, 125 kW DC fast charging, 17-inch alloys wrapped in 265/65 series tires, various drive modes (Dirt, Sand, Mud, Rock, and Mogul), leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a pair of 12.3-inch displays (instrument panel and touchscreen media display), dual-zone climate control, and Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity.

With the Toyota Hilux 4x4 BEV already recognized by the DOE, we won't be surprised if the automaker launches it alongside the turbo-diesel version at this year's Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS), come June.
