Upcoming Jaecoo J5 HEV appears on DOE’s list of recognized hybrids

Omoda & Jaecoo Motor Philippines (OJPH) kicked off 2026 by announcing they will be launching a B-SUV.

That vehicle is the Jaecoo J5, and it will be a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). After being revealed for the Thai and Indonesian markets, OJPH decided now was the right time to bring the electrified subcompact crossover to the market. Based on the initial details the automaker revealed, the J5 HEV is capable of averaging 5.3L per 100 km (or 18.8 km/L), comes with a four-link rear suspension, and will have pet-friendly features.

Fast forward to February 2026, and the J5 HEV has officially been recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE) as a hybrid. More importantly, some of the vehicle’s specifications have been revealed, and there will be a total of three variants available.

Starting with the dimensions, the Jaecoo J5 HEV will measure 4380mm long, 1860mm wide, 1650mm tall, and will have a 2620mm wheelbase. It will also have 176mm of ground clearance and 450mm of water wading capability, which is impressive for a B-SUV. It also has a 51L fuel tank, which explains Jaecoo’s claim of the J5 HEV capability of covering over 1,000 km, thanks to its ability to do 18.8 km/L.

As mentioned earlier, the J5 HEV will be offered in three variants: Comfort, Luxury, and Premium. Based on the specifications they have revealed so far, all variants will come with a column shifter, 18-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, and a host of safety features like traction control, stability control, hill-start & hill-descent control, cruise control, and roll stability control.

For better peace of mind, the J5 HEV is also available with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) like lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, and traffic jam assist. However, these features will only be available for the top-of-the-line Premium.

Other niceties such as front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, blind-spot detection, lane-change assist, rear-cross traffic alert, and rear collision warning are only offered in the Luxury and Premium models.

As previously reported, the hybrid powertrain of the J5 HEV consists of a 1.5L engine and an electric motor that gets its power from a 1.83 kWh battery pack. This gives the J5 HEV a combined 221 PS with 295 Nm of torque.

With DOE already recognizing the J5 HEV and listing its three variants, perhaps we’re getting closer to its official launch. However, the automaker could also decide to reveal it in full at the 2026 Manila International Auto Show this coming April.
