Subaru Forester finally has full hybrid AWD

Subaru has been playing catch up over its rivals when it comes to electrification. While they already have the e-Boxer hybrid powertrain, they had to rethink the system to deliver better fuel economy and efficiency. But now, they’re finally rolling out their next-generation hybrid system to one of their most popular models.

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid debuts the next-generation Subaru series-parallel hybrid powertrain that was co-developed with Toyota. It combines a 2.5-liter Atkinson/Miller cycle boxer engine with two electric motors (generator and traction motor) to produce 194 PS. Like the non-hybrid version, the Forester Hybrid’s powertrain is paired to a Lineartronic CVT with the Subaru AWD system.

Under this new setup, Subaru says the Forester Hybrid delivers 40% better fuel economy in the city and up to 25% in combined city and highway driving, delivering a range of up to 935 kilometers on a single tank of fuel. As for its EV range, expect to only roll in silence for short distances as the lithium-ion battery’s capacity is only 1.1 kWh.

The rest of the Forester Hybrid’s equipment mirrors that of its non-hybrid counterparts, including the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the latest version of the Subaru EyeSight ADAS system.

The 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid will roll out in the US market by mid 2025. With America getting first dibs while the non-hybrid is still yet to make it way in the Philippines, that means we may have to wait somewhere between late 2025 or up to early 2026 for a Philippine launch of the electrified version.
