LTO launches new Mobile Motor Vehicle Inspection Facility
Mobile vehicle inspection facility now at the hands of LTO
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has a new toy, and it’s basically a Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (MVIC) on wheels. Earlier today, the LTO, led by Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, launched a new state-of-the-art vehicle inspection equipment known as the Mobile Motor Vehicle Inspection Facility (MMVIF) at its Central Office in Quezon City.
Mendoza initiated the procurement of four new MMVIFs to ensure the roadworthiness of all motor vehicles, particularly those used for public transportation, in light of recent road accidents. He acknowledged the LTO’s responsibility to inspect vehicles before registration to determine their roadworthiness, noting the agency’s current resource and equipment limitations.
The MMVIF is capable of inspecting both Light Duty Vehicles (LDVs) and Heavy Duty Vehicles (HDVs), with inspections taking only 10 to 12 minutes for LDVs and approximately 30 minutes for HDVs.
The process is fully automated, with test results recorded in real-time directly into the system, eliminating human intervention and ensuring faster, more accurate, and tamper-proof assessments. The MMVIF also offers the full functionalities of a fixed test station with the added benefit of mobility.
Asec. Mendoza personally oversaw the arrival and installation of the first MMVIF at the LTO Central Office in Quezon City last May 13th. The LTO chief also stated that the remaining three MMVIFs are expected to arrive by the end of the month or early June, and will be distributed to three major regions in the country. He also mentioned that after thorough testing, the agency plans to request additional units for deployment in all regions of the Philippines.
The LTO chief also expressed plans to replicate the MMVIFs in every district office, if necessary, to ensure comprehensive vehicle testing beyond visual inspections, confirming their roadworthiness.
