Defender partners with Dakar Rally
Britain’s most iconic SUV is set to take part in the world’s toughest rally raid event.
The Defender brand has been named the official car partner of next year’s Dakar Rally. The British adventure brand has signed a deal until 2028, in which they will supply a fleet of Defenders for Dakar rally officials and VIP media.
The Defender will also serve as a “recce” vehicle, which will be used by the organizers to scout the roads before the event starts and to test routes for future events.

But wait, there’s more. Defender will also enter an official team in the 2026 edition of the Dakar rally, marking the first time the British 4x4 legend will race as a works entry in the grueling event. Details about the Defender rally raid machine will be announced during the course of Dakar 2025.
“Anyone who loves motorsport will have a passion for Dakar. It’s the Everest of motorsport and an event where success is dependent as much on human determination in the toughest of conditions as it is ultimate test for vehicle and engineering capability. Bringing the world's most capable and iconic 4x4 to the world's most iconic rally‑raid is a perfect fit,” said James Barclay, JLR Motorsport Managing Director.
The 47th edition of the Dakar rally will be the sixth event held in the Saudi Arabian desert, where competitors will tackle 12 stages and 14 days of racing from Bisha to Shubaytah. The 2025 edition will happen from January 3 to 17.
