Number 23 stays for 2023

Here's an F1 announcement that deserves an Oscar. No, we're not talking about Piastri this time.

Alexander Albon has agreed to sign a multi-year extension to continue driving for Williams Racing from 2023 and beyond.

Albon confirmed this through a hilarious statement on Twitter that pokes fun to the Piastri-Alpine fiasco that's currently happening in the mid-season break of Formula One.

The Thai-British driver returned to the F1 grid with Williams this year after doing reserve driver duties with Red Bull, replacing the Mercedes-bound George Russell. His comeback has been a strong one, as he currently has the credit for scoring all of Williams' points this season.

“I am really excited to be staying with Williams Racing for 2023 and look forward to seeing what we can achieve as a team in the remainder of this season and next year. The team has made some strong gains this year and it’s exciting to continue this journey and further develop our learnings together” said Albon.

Albon's extension has filled one of the two seats at Williams for next season. His current teammate Nicholas Latifi will have his contract expiring at the end of this season and is yet to sign an extension. Latifi hasn't been performing as strong as Albon, so Williams could be looking elsewhere for a replacement.
