Will BYD Shark 6 PHEV pickup have two variants in PH?

We already know that BYD Cars Philippines is preparing to officially launch the Shark 6 DM-o pickup truck. Not only did we receive information that the automaker has already gotten regulatory approval for it last month, but the automaker has started posting teasers about it on their social media pages.

Fast forward to February 2025, there has been a new development regarding the upcoming BYD Shark 6. Recently, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued new Memorandum Circulars that homologate the upcoming electrified pickup for the Philippine market.

Based on the newly-released documents, there will be two variants of the Shark 6, Advanced and Premium. If those variant names sound familiar, that's because they are the same ones used in the all-electric Seal. The Advanced will likely serve as the base model while the Premium could be designated the top-of-the-line offering.

The new Memorandum Circulars also revealed the dimensions and specifications of the BYD Shark 6. Both variants will measure 5457mm long, 1971mm wide, 1925mm tall, and will feature a 3260mm wheelbase. Moreover, the pickup truck will have 230mm of ground clearance and will be equipped with 265/65 series tires wrapped in 18-inch alloy wheels.

Under the hood, the Shark 6 will be powered by a 1497cc gasoline-powered engine that makes 150 kW or 204 PS. There's no mention of any electric motors but the previous regulatory approval did say it will have two electric motors. The front motor makes 231 PS while the rear generates 204 PS. It is then powered by a lithium iron phosphate battery that can be recharged to full in 11 hours via AC charging or in just 45 minutes via DC charging.

Interestingly, the pickup truck's range is only rated at 460 km. However, this could only be rated for the gasoline engine alone. When paired with the plug-in hybrid system, the Shark 6 has a claimed total range of up to 840 km. Last but not least, the Shark 6 has a reference weight of 2,710 kg and a cargo capacity of 790 kg.

With the Shark 6 inching closer to its official debut in the Philippines, perhaps we're only several weeks away before it's launched in the country. We're curious as to how BYD will price it against the competition.
