BMW PH boss Spencer Yu says they are studying if they will bring 5 Series Touring

Yesterday, BMW distributor SMC Asia Cars Distributor Corp officially revealed the latest 5 Series. Now on its 8th generation, the G60 5 Series sees the executive sedan being offered in both ICE and EV versions for the first time.

There's the 520i which serves up 208 PS with 330 Nm of torque and is assisted by a 48V mild-hybrid system. Then there's the i5 eDrive40 EV which puts out 340 PS with 430 Nm of torque and has a cruising range of up to 582 km on a single charge.

All well and good although we did notice that both variants are only offered in sedan body styles. With the all-new 5 Series Touring already revealed in Europe, we asked SMC Asia Cars Distributor Corp boss Spencer Yu if the Philippines would eventually get the wagon body style around next year.

According to Yu, the 5 Series Touring was just introduced in Europe but has yet to enter production. He added that production of the wagon body style will only begin in the second half of the year. With that, it will take some time before it's made available to global markets.

As to whether BMW Philippines will bring it here, Yu added that the company has yet to decide if they will launch it here. However, the executive mentioned that they are already studying if the 5 Series Touring will fit in their portfolio and what engines they could get if they decide to bring the wagon here.

“Once the production has started, we will see if it will fit within our product portfolio, what engine to get, things like that. Right now we are still undecided whether we can proceed but we will see if it will be financially viable to bring it here,” said Spencer Yu.

With BMW already offering the 3 Series Touring here including the M3 Touring, we're hoping that the automaker will be able to launch the 5 Series Touring here in the future.
