Next-generation BMW M5 arrives with 4.4L twin-turbo plug-in hybrid V8
After being spotted on the Department of Energy's list of recognized plug-in hybrids and receiving regulatory approval, BMW Philippines distributor SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp. has officially unveiled its newest super saloon (and super wagon).

Say “Guten Tag” to the 2026 BMW M5, and it's available as a four-door Sedan or as the more stylish five-door Touring. Whether you choose the G90 Sedan or the G99 Touring, both versions of the all-new M5 come with an electrified 4.4L twin-turbo V8. The engine alone already makes an impressive 585 PS and 750 Nm of torque, but thanks to a plug-in (PHEV) system, it generates even more horsepower and pulling force.

With the help of an electric motor and a high-voltage 18.6 kWh battery pack, the all-new M5 has a combined system output of 727 PS and a generous 1,000 Nm of torque. Paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox and AWD system, BMW says the plug-in hybrid M5 Sedan can sprint from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 305 km/h with the M Driver's Package. As for the M5 Touring, it can go from 0 – 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and can also reach a top speed of 305 km/h.

Since it's a PHEV, the all-new M5 can travel on battery power for up to 69 km in Sedan form and up to 67 km in the Touring, based on the WLTP cycle. It can also reach a top speed of 140 km/h without using a single drop of fuel. Recharging the battery is done via a Type II CCS system that supports up to 11 kW of AC charging.

Besides going fast, the all-new BMW M5 also benefits from a bevy of chassis and handling upgrades. It comes standard with the adaptive M suspension, along with the Integral Active Steering, which allows rear-wheel steering for better handling. Also featured are M Compound brakes for better stopping power, although the PH-spec M5 gets the optional M Carbon ceramic brakes for both the Sedan and Touring variants.

With the M5 serving as the most powerful version of the 5 Series, it's no surprise that BMW gave it a sportier look. Both the Sedan and Touring models get a more aggressive stance, M-specific bumpers and accents, a gloss black surround on the dual kidney grilles, widened fenders, gloss black accents throughout the vehicle, and a quad exhaust system that's exclusive to the all-new M5. As far as wheels are concerned, the all-new M5 gets a staggered wheel setup – the front gets 20-inch M light alloys while the rear sits on 21-inch alloy wheels.

Like most BMWs today, the latest M5 features the brand's Live Cockpit Plus design, which sees a pair of high-definition displays on the dashboard. It runs on the brand's latest Operating System 8.5 and comes with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, satellite navigation, intelligent voice control, and more.

Other amenities include a Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, a panoramic sunroof, M Multifunction seats, full Merino leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats with memory function, M carbon fiber accents, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, LED ambient lighting, and a Sky Lounge Panoramic sunroof.

While the M5 Sedan can already carry plenty of luggage, the M5 Touring takes it up a notch thanks to its more spacious boot. The long-roof M5 has 500 liters of cargo space with all the seats up, but can be extended to 1,630 liters when you fold down the split-folding rear seats. It even gets latch points to help users secure their load with ease.

The BMW M5 Sedan and M5 Touring both retail for PHP 12.79M
