A roller coaster that drifts? Yes, at Universal Studios Hollywood
Universal Studios Hollywood has officially confirmed that its first high-speed outdoor roller coaster, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, will open later this year at Universal Studios Hollywood in Universal City, California.

Designed to immerse guests in the high-octane world of the franchise, the roller coaster promises a thrill-packed experience. One detail that will especially appeal to automotive enthusiasts is the ride’s fleet of themed vehicles. Each ride features four simulated bucket racing seats and takes its design inspiration directly from the iconic cars seen in the films.

Leading the lineup is the legendary Dominic Toretto car: the Dodge Charger R/T driven by Vin Diesel’s character. The ride vehicle features a simulated supercharged engine and chrome five-spoke American Racing “Daisy” style wheels, echoing the muscle car’s unmistakable presence on screen.

Another standout is the bright orange Toyota Supra, inspired by the car driven by Brian O'Conner and portrayed by the late Paul Walker. Faithfully recreated with its signature graphic livery, the car is widely regarded as one of the most recognizable vehicles in the franchise.

Also joining the roster is the Mazda RX-7, modeled after the ride of Han Seoul-oh, played by Sung Kang. The vehicle replicates the film version’s distinctive VeilSide-style body kit, making it another fan-favorite brought to life. Completing the lineup is the Nissan Skyline GT-R, inspired by Brian O’Conner’s iconic blue machine, known for its striking appearance (and signature exhaust) in the films.

One of its standout innovations is a 360-degree rotation system that recreates the sensation of high-speed drifting. Riders will spin along roughly 4,100 feet of track, about the length of 12 football fields, reaching speeds of up to 72 mph, with advanced sound-reduction technology enhancing the thrilling rollercoaster ride.

Once it opens, Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is expected to deliver one of the most adrenaline-charged experiences at the park, bringing the franchise’s signature high-speed action to life in roller-coaster form. The debut also aligns with the upcoming 25th anniversary celebration of the blockbuster Fast & Furious film series, which is building toward its final installment scheduled for 2028.
