Toyota announces date for world premiere of GR GT supercar
Toyota has teased the supercar that will succeed the Lexus LFA as the brand’s halo model.
Set to be called the Toyota GR GT, the supercar has appeared in a commercial that aired in Japan while also revealing the date for its world premiere.
The video started with the 2000GT running on a proving ground before being overtaken by the Lexus LFA and its sweet-sounding V10 engine. But afterwards, the GR GT pulls up on the high side, passing the supercar with the words “The Soul Lives On”, and the world premiere date follows after.
Toyota spent the year teasing the public about the GR GT, as its concept road car and race car versions appeared in the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Also, there was the Lexus Sport Concept that debuted at The Quail, featuring very similar proportions and a powertrain.
Based on Goodwood video feeds and the teaser commercial, the exhaust note that the GR GT makes seems to come from a mid-mounted V8. We’re yet to confirm if it will feature forced induction, such as twin turbos, or if it will have any form of electric assist.
But either way, we’ll get to know the answers as December 5 is only a few days away.
