Toyota PH issues special service campaign for Land Cruiser 300

Heads up to owners of the Land Cruiser 300 in the country after Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) issued a recall that affects 3,847 units of the flagship 4x4 SUV.

According to TMP, the Special Service Campaign (SSC) involves Land Cruiser 300 units that were built between November 22, 2024, and December 5, 2025. The recall involves the LC300's 10-speed automatic transmission, specifically the electronic control unit (ECU) that needs to be reprogrammed.

TMP said that the reprogramming of the transmission ECU will be done free of charge for affected customers. In addition, the automaker said customers can verify if their vehicle is included in the recall through the online VIN checker. Afterward, affected owners can contact their preferred dealership to schedule an appointment, which will be done at no cost to the customer.

Alternatively, TMP will notify affected customers through an Official Notification Letter and will be invited by authorized Toyota dealerships to reprogram the transmission, free of charge.

The recall is part of Toyota's broader safety campaign, which affects other markets that also have the LC300. In fact, Toyota Australia recalled 11,020 examples of the Land Cruiser 300 while Lexus USA announced that 4,400 units of the LX 600 need to have their transmissions checked.

The issue stems from special linear solenoids that help the 10-speed automatic shift gears. If one of the solenoids stops working under certain driving conditions, the transmission ECU and the engine ECU may not properly detect or communicate the issue. This can lead to the transmission to overrev in certain gears and may possibly cause damage to the transmission, as well as a possible loss of power while driving at highway speeds.

In the worst-case scenario, the transmission housing could become damaged and cause transmission fluid to leak. Should the fluid come into contact with hot drivetrain components or a nearby ignition source, the fluid could combust and cause a fire.
