TOM's Classic launches restoration service for the AE86

TOM'S Racing launches TOM'S Classic Restoration Service at Tokyo Auto Salon 2025

This year’s Tokyo Auto Salon continues to be a mecca for Japanese tuning houses whose goal is to extract every ounce of performance and looks. But among the hordes of shiny new wheels and engine parts, renowned Toyota tuning specialist TOM’S Racing has launched their exclusive line of AE86 restoration parts and engine rehabilitation programs known as “TOM’S Classic” restoration service.

This is directly aimed at AE86 enthusiasts who restore and modify, as their product line-up consists of comprehensive body and engine parts.

Their restoration service includes a complete body repair program that involves stripping it down to bare metal to facilitate a thorough repair of all traces of rust and damage. Moreover, they offer a fully restored AE86 body frame that eliminates the need to sacrifice a donor shell or surplus "half cut". It comes complete with legal documentation and is sold directly by TOM's. But this is intended for race use, as confirmed by a TOM'S representative, while pricing is still under evaluation as they gauge the market demand.

Besides having an AE86 body shell available, Toyota’s iconic high-performance engines such as the 4A-GE (16V/20V), 3S-GE, and 2JZ-GTE can also be fully rebuilt and modified. Built by TOM's trained race mechanics, they utilize advanced technology, step correction, weight balance optimization, and specialized parts. The engines are geared towards spirited street driving and circuit racing. Performance engine tuning also ensures improved accelerator responsiveness and all-around peak performance.

These newly built engines are perfect for performance enthusiasts who want a properly tuned engine for the street and occasional track day duties. The increased horsepower and torque from low to high speed provide a smooth and comfortable powerband. All-out, full-race, engine builds are also on the menu for race/rally builds and even custom engine setups. 

TOM’S Racing offers three engine options to choose from:

A Spec: Standard Overhaul. Ideal for preserving the original factory condition, recommended for street use and restoration builds.

B Spec: High-Performance Engine. Built on A-Spec with selected performance parts for enhanced capabilities, suitable for street driving and spirited handling.

C Spec: Custom Order Engine. Tailored to the user’s specific requirements, whether for show cars, rally, drift, supercharged/turbocharged builds, or even NOS setups.
