This tall Honda Civic Type R is built to go rallying

Honda reveals Civic Type R OveRland Concept as a purpose-built off-roader

The Honda Civic Type R is undeniably a fast car both on track and on the road. With 310 PS and 400 Nm torque on tap, the hot hatchback is capable of going from 0 to 97 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 271 km/h. Now imagine it as a rally car complete with the large tires, wider track, and long travel suspension. Having a hard time imagining it? Thankfully, Honda has already built one, and it will be ready to hit the rally courses sooner or later.

Called the Civic Type R OveRland, it was built in collaboration between Honda UK and Ralph Hosier Engineering. As mentioned earlier, this particular Type R is built for over-landing as its name implies, and takes inspiration from Rally Raid and Safari racers.

According to Ralph Hosier Engineering, the car is still currently under development but will be ready in a month. It features a four-inch lift, revised suspension, and a wider track to improve off-road performance. Despite all the modifications, however, the Type R still uses the factory powertrain with no modifications made to the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.

It also means that this rally-ready Civic Type R is still front wheel drive. To make it look like a proper rally car, the Type R features a new bodykit with wider fenders, allowing new wheels and chunky tires to be fitted on all four corners. A roof scoop, new vents and a stripped-out interior complete the rally makeover. 

As cool as the Civic Type R OveRland is, Honda calls it a concept, and it will likely remain that way. However, you ask Ralph Hosier Engineering nicely and bring enough cash, they just might help you out.
