Upcoming Mercedes-AMG super EV spotted doing winter testing
Mercedes-Benz has not had the easiest of times when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs). Apart from the fact that sales of its EQ series of EVs are less than stellar, market demand for EVs has slowed down, resulting in automakers adjusting their plans when it comes to electrification.
In fact, Mercedes-Benz has cut down on developing EVs to develop its next-generation AMG V8. This effectively does away with the brand's original plan to go full EV in 2030 in certain markets.

But that doesn't mean the brand has entirely abandoned its EV ambitions. Just last year, our spies managed to take pictures of Mercedes-AMG's 1,000 HP electric SUV being driven at the Nurburgring. The vehicle is still covered in a camouflage livery with some false body panels, but it's quite clear it's going to have one heck of a look.
Fast forward to 2026, our spies managed to take another good look at Mercedes-AMG's upcoming super EV. Like most prototypes our spies managed to spot, Mercedes-AMG is currently testing the 1000 HP electric SUV in winter conditions. More importantly, however, the prototype EV loses some camo, giving us a better view of what to expect once it's officially revealed.

For starters, it now comes with production lights, and it looks like it sports the brand's signature headlight design. The electric crossover is also quite low to the ground, which likely means it will be more of a road-focused super electric crossover SUV. The LED taillights, meanwhile, are still pretty much covered up, but we do get a peek at what they will eventually look like once the covers are off.
The rest of the vehicle appears to look the same, but thanks to the thinner camouflage livery, the upcoming super EV will have a shooting brake-like design instead of a traditional crossover SUV look. We're hoping to see more of its design as Mercedes-AMG continues with testing.

As before, the upcoming EV will be powered by powerful axial flux motors, which will deliver 1,000 HP and more in higher-grade variants. It will also have an 800V architecture, which gives it the ability to have a fast recharge rate of up to 330 kW.

Once revealed, the Mercedes-AMG electric SUV could take on the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Electric and perhaps even the plug-in hybrid Lamborghini Urus SE. Mercedes-AMG could reveal it later this year and launch it as a 2027 model year vehicle.
