All-new Mercedes-Benz GLA to get EV, hybrid versions

It's been nearly five years since Mercedes-Benz Philippines launched the second-generation GLA. With the brand banking on smaller crossovers to attract younger buyers, it serves as one of Mercedes-Benz's important models. They then released the facelifted version back in 2023, which received some subtle changes, along with some tech upgrades to keep it fresh and updated.

But with the current GLA already six-years old (first debuting in 2019), the crossover is due for a full model change, and Mercedes-Benz has been busy with the next-generation model.

Our spies managed to take pictures of the third-generation Mercedes-Benz GLA undergoing winter testing somewhere in Europe, and it looks like it will get a major redesign. Based on what we've seen so far, the all-new GLA will get slimmer LED headlights & taillights, which somehow gives it an Audi-like appearance.

The rest of the body is still covered in a camouflage livery, but it looks like the all-new GLA will largely carry over its profile. We did notice, however, that the all-new GLA could get larger wheels and a more rakish rear window.

In terms of powertrain, the EV version (GLA with EQ Technology) is expected to debut first later this year, while the hybrid version will be revealed sometime in 2027. Both variants will likely be underpinned by the brand's Mercedes Modular Architecture (MMA) and could measure over 4.5 meters long, making the all-new GLA longer than its predecessor.

The EV variants will feature 800V technology for super-fast recharging and could be available in two variants. The first one will reportedly be the GLA 250+ EQ with 272 PS and an 85 kWh battery pack. Meanwhile, the GLA 350 4MATIC EQ could generate 354 PS and may come with an 85 kWh battery.

Last but not least, the hybrid version will likely be powered by a 1.5L turbocharged engine that's assisted by an electric motor integrated into the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission.

With Mercedes-Benz still busy testing the all-new GLA, it might be a while before the crossover makes its official debut.
