Shanghai 2025: GWM Poer Sahar Hi4-T PHEV debuts with 750 Nm, 115km EV range
GWM reveals its BYD Shark 6 fighter, the 2025 Poer Sahar Hi-4T pickup
Think pickup trucks, and more than likely, you’ll think of a behemoth of a vehicle that can haul plenty of cargo and not complain about it. Moreover, it gets a powerful engine that delivers plenty of power on tap at the cost of high fuel consumption, despite being gas-powered or diesel-driven.
GWM is out to prove that pickup trucks can still have the power to go anywhere and haul anything without sacrificing range and carbon emissions. Say hello to the 2025 GWM Poer Sahar Hi-4T, and it combines robust power delivery, an intelligent energy system, and 4WD capability in an electrified package.
GWM claims this particular pickup truck is the world’s first hybrid off-road pickup and it’s built on GWM’s “Super Off-Road Hybrid Architecture”. Power comes from a 2.0L turbocharged engine that’s augmented by the brand’s Hi-4T PHEV system that consists of dual electric motors and a high-capacity 37 kWh lithium ternary battery pack.
This gives the mighty pickup truck to deliver a combined 750 Nm of torque, which is more than enough to haul and carry plenty of cargo. Moreover, the electrified pickup can travel up to 1,060 km on a fully charged battery and a full tank of gasoline. In fact, the pickup has a claimed fuel consumption of over 58 km/L under ideal conditions. Even on low battery power, GWM says it can still consume about 12.6 km/L, which is impressive given the pickup’s immense size.
On battery power alone, GWM says the Poer Sahar Hi-4T can travel up to 115 km without using a single drop of fuel. Should the battery need to be recharged quickly, the pickup supports 50 kW fast DC charging, which can recharge the 37 kWh battery from 30% to 80% in as little as 24 minutes.
Giving the pickup’s ability to go anywhere it pleases comes in the form of the 4A+Mlock intelligent 4WD system. It gets three differential locks (front, center, and rear), along with various drive modes to help drivers manage the terrain with ease. Those who plan to haul with the Poer Sahar Hi-4T will be happy to know that it’s rated to tow 3.3 tons and has a modular cargo bed system, which is great when you need to carry different kinds of cargo or if you need to set up camp somewhere in the great outdoors.
Speaking of camping, the electrified pickup comes with a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system that supports up to 6kW of external power output. This feature can be used via a 220V outlets in the bed that can power multiple high-wattage appliances.
With GWM proving that pickup trucks can go the distance and consume less fuel while on the go, we’re curious if GWM Philippines distributor Luxuriant Automotive Group Inc. (LAGI) is looking to bring the Poer Sahar into the market sometime in the future.
