Seres has a new PHEV called the Landian E5 Plus

We have not heard much from Seres since they held their brand launch back in April’s Manila International Motor Show. But over in its home market, it looks like the new marque from PRC is busy rolling out new energy vehicles.

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has “leaked” information about the new Seres Landian E5 Plus – a plug-in hybrid crossover that could reportedly reach up to 1300 kms of range.

We know the car’s name does sound interesting, especially in Filipino speak – but Landian is actually the Seres Group’s new energy sub brand. Landian (pronounced as Lan-dyan) translates differently in Chinese, as it means “blue electricity”. And for those not in the know, Seres is actually Huawei’s key partner in the automotive sector.

Not to be mistaken with the Seres 5 that was previewed in MIAS, the Seres Landian E5 has both a five and seven-seater option available in its home market. Measuring over 4.7 meters long, the Landian E5 sizes up in the midsize crossover class where it can compete with vehicles like the Chery Tiggo 8 PHEV.

Looks-wise, the Seres Landian E5 Plus has an enclosed front fascia which makes it look like a full EV. Depending on the variant, the Landian E5 Plus can feature either 17, 18, or 19-inch wheels, and a panoramic glass roof.

The Landian E5 Plus is powered by a 1.5-liter engine with only 95 PS, but it’s combined with an electric motor that puts out 218 PS. The plug-in hybrid system uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries that can also give an all-electric range of 150 km using the CLTC cycle.

Should Seres Auto offer this in PH, expect to pay a rather premium price for the Landian E5 Plus. They previously said they are not benchmarking against volume brands such as Toyota or Nissan, but instead they want to position themselves with luxury brands such as BMW, Audi, Mercedes, and even Porsche.
