LTO extends September registration, driver's license renewal due to severe weather

In recent weeks, large parts of the country have been battered by successive typhoons, which were further intensified by the Habagat (Southwest Monsoon). In response, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has moved to ease the burden on motorists by extending the validity of all motor vehicle registrations and driver’s licenses set to expire on September 30, 2025.

LTO Assistant Secretary, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II confirmed that a memorandum has already been circulated to regional directors and district offices, instructing them to implement the extension.

“The validity of all motor vehicle registration expiring on 30 September 2025 and driver’s licenses due for renewal on the same date shall be extended, and no penalties shall be collected until 03 October 2025,” the memorandum stated.

The same order also extended the 15 days for settling traffic apprehension cases, effective September 26, 2025, until October 3, 2025.

The LTO Chief explained that the extension was also necessary since government work in Metro Manila and other affected regions was suspended due to typhoon Opong, heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, and tropical cyclones Mirasol and Nando.
