The 1.5-liter turbo engine can deliver better fuel economy

According to a report by Automotive News, the tenth generation of the Honda Civic will have a new downsized turbocharged petrol engine.

Automotive News goes on by saying that the engine will be an entry-level unit and will help Honda to meet “stricter emission standards.” This news reportedly came from Honda's global R&D head Yoshinaru Yamamoto who said that “downsized turbocharging will be the base, even for the Civic.”

With this, the next-gen Civic will be equipped with a 1.5-liter tubro four-cylinder engine as standard along with a naturally aspirated power unit. Yamamoto also commented that the 1.5-liter turbo engine can deliver the same power and torque as compared to the 2.0 and 2.4-liter engine. In addition, Yamamoto said that the 1.5-liter turbo engine can deliver better fuel economy.

Honda revealed their 1.0-liter, 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter Earth Dreams VTEC Turbo direct-inject engines during the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show which will be fitted in upcoming passenger vehicle models. The high-performance 2.0-liter variant recently debuted with the 2015 Honda Civic Type R.
