Only US Honda CR-V Hybrids affected by fire recall

Honda Cars PH says CR-V Hybrids sold in the country safe from recall

Customers in the Philippines who purchased a brand new Honda CR-V Hybrid can breathe a sigh of relief. Recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the US issued a recall affecting 98 units of the Honda CR-V Hybrid due to a defect in the lithium-ion battery that can cause terminal fractures. This increases the risk of a vehicle fire while the vehicle is in use.

With that, some Honda customers in the Philippines might be thinking their vehicle needs to be checked by the automaker. Fortunately, Honda Cars Philippines Inc. (HCPI) shared with us that only CR-V Hybrids in the US are affected by the recent recall. According to our contact, Honda HQ already sent word to HCPI to inform them that the Philippines is not part of the said recall.

In addition, the affected CR-V Hybrids that are part of the recall were all manufactured in the US between October 6, 2022, and January 24, 2023. Moreover, HCPI sources the CR-V Hybrid from Thailand and so far, no major recalls have been issued regarding the electrified crossover SUV.

As for the faulty lithium-ion battery affecting US CR-V Hybrids, NHTSA mentioned that the batteries were made by Panasonic. Since Honda manufactures the CR-V in North America and Panasonic has an automotive battery plant in the US, it stands to reason that the US market may be the only market affected by the recall.
