Nissan gives the X-Trail e-Power the NISMO treatment

It's been quite a while since we last saw the all-new Nissan X-Trail make an appearance in the Philippines. We say appearance because Nissan Philippines Inc. (NPI) previewed the crossover last year at the 2024 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) with e-Power.

With a 1.5L gasoline engine serving as a generator while an electric motor producing 203 PS and 320 Nm of torque, the all-new X-Trail e-Power could be something Nissan needs to offer more electrified models. Now, Nissan has given the X-Trail e-Power the NISMO treatment, and boy, does it receive plenty of upgrades.

Say hello to the Nissan X-Trail NISMO, and the automaker says it was developed under the concept of a “Grand Touring SUV that delivers a passionate experience”. For Nissan, the X-Trail NISMO combines race-bred performance with everyday drivability, as well as stylish aesthetics with a more engaging driving experience.

The X-Trail NISMO gets an upgraded suspension, which consists of Kayaba (KYB) Swing Valve dampers – a first for Nissan. This allows for maximizing ride comfort while also minimizing body motion, especially for tall vehicles, such as crossover SUVs.

The e-4ORCE electric AWD system, meanwhile, has been specifically tuned for the X-Trail NISMO. It gets increased RWD distribution and controls the front tires for directional turning, which enhances line-tracing while accelerating through the corners. The result is a smoother and more predictable handling through various terrains. Also providing better traction & grip are the Michelin Pilot Sport EV tires shod in 20-inch wheels and the optimized power steering system to complement the suspension and wider rubber.

Mechanically, all remains the same under the hood of the X-Trail NISMO. That means the 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder engine continues to make 142 PS with 250 Nm of torque, as well as the front & rear electric motors. The former puts out 203 PS with 330 Nm of torque, while the latter produces 136 PS with 195 Nm of torque.

Despite not giving the powertrain any extra boost, Nissan did install a specially tuned vehicle control module (VCM). It gets a Sport mode that prioritizes responsiveness and an Auto mode designed for mid to high-range acceleration. This allows drivers to enjoy both speed and comfort in everyday driving.

In true NISMO fashion, the X-Trail gets plenty of exterior and interior updates. Beginning with the latter, the crossover gets a generous serving of aerodynamic upgrades that also make it stand out more. The front fascia gets dark chrome accents that sweep horizontally above the grille and seamlessly connect with the LED headlights, resulting in a bolder look. It also gets a front under spoiler complete with a NISMO logo that helps to generate additional downforce while at speed.

Like other NISMO models, the X-Trail NISMO gets red accents on its under spoilers for that sportier look. Last but not least, the rear bumper gets an integrated diffuser and racing-inspired rear foglights that evoke motorsport aesthetics.

Hop inside, and the X-Trail NISMO features a black and red cabin and is adorned by striking red accents throughout. It also comes with a red center marker on the leather steering wheel and a red push-button start to remind would-be owners they are in something special. Those who want more inside their X-Trail NISMO can get the optional Recaro sports seats. Unlike regular seats, the Recaro units provide high levels of support to suppress body movement during cornering. In addition, the Recaro seats come with a power reclining system and heating for extra comfort.

Sales of the X-Trail NISMO will begin in Japan on September 24, 2025. Since Nissan Philippines Inc. has yet to officially launch the X-Trail e-Power here, we're curious if they also plan to offer the NISMO version.
