MMDA bans use of their lamp posts for commercial ads

Hang no bill: Putting commercial ads on MMDA lamp posts now illegal

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is putting its foot down when it comes to ad companies putting commercial advertisements on their lamp posts.

This comes after the government agency announced that putting commercial ads on lamp posts maintained by the MMDA is no longer allowed under regulation no. 24-001. That means products and announcements of a private nature are now prohibited from being placed on MMDA-maintained lamp posts. Even the leasing of lamp post spacing is no longer being allowed by the agency.

Only informative items and announcements related to the MMDA, Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), and other agencies/offices are allowed to be hung and/or posted on the said lamp posts. All materials for hanging or posting on lamp posts shall be approved prior by the Director of the Metro Parkway Clearing Group (MPCG) of the MMDA which will also prescribe guidelines for putting materials on the lamp posts.

The MPCG is also the one responsible for maintaining the lamp posts as well as clearing any unauthorized advertisements or notices. Those found violating the new regulation by the MMDA will be met with a PHP 5,000 fine on each lamp post. The MMDA will also file appropriate criminal, civil, as well as administrative actions under existing laws, rules, and, regulations to whosoever illegally puts advertisements on MMDA lamp posts.

To ad companies that put up commercial advertisements on MMDA lamp posts, you have been warned.
