Mitsubishi L100 Minicab EV revealed in Indonesia, PH to get it?

Mitsubishi L100 mini commercial EV officially launched in Indonesia

After Mitsubishi Motors Indonesia announced that they had started production of the L100 Minicab EV late last year, the automaker officially revealed the all-electric workhorse at the 2024 Indonesia International Auto Show.

Also called the Minicab MiEV over in Japan, the locally-built L100 EV marks the first time the mini commercial EV is made available in the ASEAN region. More importantly, it is also the first time the Minicab MiEV is built outside Japan for international markets.

Despite its miniature size, this pint-sized EV can easily cover plenty of kilometers while hauling cargo. Beginning with its electric powertrain, the humble L100 EV packs a single electric motor that drives the rear wheels and produces a respectable 42 PS with 195 Nm of torque. It is then paired with a 20.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that gives it a range of up to 180 km based on the WLTC cycle. It also has a top speed of 100 km/h.

When it comes to recharging the L100 EV, Mitsubishi says that a Type 1 AC charging system will take around 7.5 hours to recharge the vehicle fully. Meanwhile, a DC fast-charging system via CHAdeMO will recharge the battery from 0 to 80% in just 42 minutes.

Size-wise, the electric LCV measures 3395mm long, 1475mm wide, 1915mm tall, and has a 2390mm wheelbase. Since the L100 EV is only offered as a two-seater cargo panel van, it has a spacious cargo area that spans 1830mm long, 1370mm wide, and 1230mm tall. Even better is the fact that Mitsubishi claims the L100 EV has a cargo-carrying capacity of 425 kg.

While it may be an LCV, Mitsubishi did not forget to equip the L100 EV with some creature comforts along with several safety features. It gets manual air conditioning, a provision for a touchscreen system (although standard units don't come with it), and cupholders mounted on the corner aircon vents. Regarding safety, the L100 EV gets anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, traction control, and a pair of airbags.

The Mitsubishi L100 EV is now on sale in Indonesia and is set to empower small & medium businesses with a zero-emissions LCV. But the bigger question is, could Mitsubishi bring the L100 EV to the Philippines?
