MIAS 2024: Foton Tunland V7, V9 diesel-hybrid pickups unleashed

Foton PH debuts a pair of full-size diesel-hybrid pickup trucks at MIAS 2024

Foton Motor Philippines Inc (FMPI) has just revealed its biggest pickup trucks yet. After a lengthy teaser campaign, the automaker has taken the covers off their first-ever hybrid pickup trucks in the country.

Say hello to the 2024 Foton Tunland V7 and V9, and boy are they big & macho. Revealed at this year’s Manila International Auto Show, the two pickup trucks serve as the brand’s latest models and are Foton’s first electrified vehicles. That’s right, both full-size pickup trucks are powered by a turbo-diesel hybrid powertrain.

The two trucks are powered by a 2.0-liter Aucan turbo-diesel engine that is assisted by a 48V mild-hybrid system. It puts out an admirable 163 PS along with a hearty 450 Nm of torque. Compared to the Thunder’s 2.0L engine, the Tunland V7 and V9 pickups make an extra 2 PS along with an additional 70 Nm of pull.

Power is then transferred to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Depending on the variant chosen, the trucks can come in either 4x2 or 4x4 guises.

When it comes to features, both trucks are packed to the brim. Both vehicles are available with automatic climate control, a massive 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, power-adjustable front seats, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and leather upholstery. It also comes with Apple CarPlay and Carbit connectivity features.

Style-wise, both trucks appear to have been inspired by full-size American pickups. The Tunland V7 looks to have borrowed some styling cues from the Ford F-150 with its massive vertical-style LED headlights, wide grille, bulky fenders, and large bed.

Meanwhile, the Tunland V9 appears to have taken inspiration from the Ram 1500 thanks to its bold grille, distinct LED headlights, chunky fender flares, and equally large bed.

Both pickups measure 5541mm long, 2030mm wide, and 1905mm tall. The two also have a generous 3355mm wheelbase, a ground clearance of 240mm, and a curb weight of 2,200 kg.

As for its suspension system, both trucks are fitted with double wishbones at the front. However, the V9 comes with a multi-link at the back for added comfort. On the other hand, the V7 has rear leaf springs to maximize cargo-carrying capacity. Last but not least, the two pickups roll on 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/70 series tires (The ones showed at MIAS 2024 have aftermarket wheels with chunkier off-road tires).
