Mercedes-AMG busy doing cold-weather testing for upcoming electric super SUV

Electric crossover SUVs may be all the rage today, but Mercedes-AMG has yet to dip its toes into such a market. Well, things are about to change as Mercedes-Benz's in-house tuner has been busy of late developing a super SUV that generates over 1,000 HP.

Yes, Mercedes-Benz has the EQA, EQB, EQC, EQE, and EQS crossovers but the upcoming electric super SUV will be a high-performance model developed in-house by AMG. The first prototypes of the yet-to-be-launchedsuper SUV are already undergoing cold-weather testing in Sweden.

Mercedes-AMG is not yet ready to fully reveal the electric super SUV. However, the thin camouflage does give us a glimpse of what to expect. For starters, it gets a pair of sleek LED headlights, a closed-off grille, flush door handles, and a distinct wagon-like body.

The super SUV is set to make its debut around 2026 but the automaker has already revealed some key details about it. For starters, it will be the second fully electric model from Mercedes-AMG to be underpinned by the AMG.EA architecture – a dedicated EV platform. Moreover, the super electric SUV will be a standalone model as it will not be a performance derivative of an existing Mercedes-Benz vehicle.

The EV itself will have an 800V architecture and will make use of axial-flux motors along with a high-performance battery. It's expected to produce over 1,000 PS as it's rumored to benefit from four electric motors (one on each wheel apparently) and will have active suspension plus four-wheel steering.

Other details about the upcoming electric SUV remain a mystery. However, more information about the Mercedes-AMG electric SUV will likely be revealed next year as the company continues testing.
