Mazda celebrates 35 years of the MX-5 Miata with special edition model
Believe it or not, the Mazda MX-5 (AKA Miata) is already in its mid-30s. That's right, the roadster that made owning a two-seater convertible affordable for most has been on the road for over 30 years. Now on its fourth generation since 2015, the roadster is already due for a fifth generation.
But Mazda wants to celebrate the sports car's 35th birthday in a huge way. Say hello to the Mazda MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition which recently made its debut at the 2024 Mazda Fan Festa. While it may look like an ordinary MX-5 on the outside, the automaker made some exclusive and key upgrades that are only available for the 35th Anniversary Edition.

For starters, it's painted in Artisan Red, one of the brand's newest and sought-after colors. It used to be available only for Mazda's new SUVs, but now that it's available on the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition, perhaps it might not be long before other vehicles get it as well. Also worth mentioning is the tan-finished soft-top, which suits the Artisan Red exterior of the special edition MX-5.
Inside, the Artisan Red carries over to the interior, particularly on the top section of the door cards and on the air vent bezels. And just like the soft top, the leather interior of the MX-5 35th Anniversary Edition is finished in a similar hue. To remind would-be customers they are in something special, the headrests are embroidered with the 35th Anniversary Edition logo.

Last but not least, the 35th Anniversary Edition of the MX-5 will also be available as an RF but the folding metal roof will be painted in Artisan Red.
Mazda mentioned no chassis or suspension mods. This makes us think the 35th Anniversary Edition will most likely be geared towards comfort and practicality rather than outright performance. As for what's under the hood, the JDM version of the MX-5 will likely get the 1.5L SkyActiv-G four-cylinder engine while export versions will continue to get the 2.0L SkyActiv-G engine. Transmission options for the car also likely come in the form of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic.

The 35th Anniversary Edition of the Mazda MX-5 is set to be available in Japan soon. Those who are looking to get one here in the Philippines will be happy to know it's coming here in the not-so-distant future. The only question now is when can we expect it to arrive?
