No plate, No travel policy on 4-wheeled vehicles coming soon
Motorists who are still using temporary plates will have to install their license plates soon.
To check on the status of license plates and to identify the problems on why they are not distributed, LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said he would conduct regular inspections and visit motor vehicle dealers.
On Thursday, August 8, Asec. Mendoza inspected a car dealer in Quezon City where he found out that around 600 pairs of plates remain undistributed to its clients.
“On the part of the LTO, I can assure you that there is no longer a backlog on the license plates for four-wheel vehicles. The problem, however, is that these license plates are not properly distributed and remain in the possession of the motor vehicle dealers,” said Mendoza.

Around 600 pairs of license plates were found to be unclaimed in a surprise visit by the LTO to this car dealer in Quezon City
It was found out that plenty of motorists are no longer interested in claiming their plates since they can still travel even without them. This is the reason why the LTO is pushing for the implementation of the “No Plate, No Travel” policy, especially on four-wheel vehicles. The policy is expected to be implemented within this year.
Mendoza said he already instructed the LTO officials across the country to work together with the motor vehicle dealers and even with the local government units for the distribution of the unclaimed plates.
“We need to work together in complying with our respective obligations to our clients. If it can be done immediately, then there’s no need for any delay,” added Mendoza.
Some of the LTO offices in some parts of the country have initiated a program for the distribution of unclaimed plates in coordination with the LGUs.
