Issuance of LTO RFID stickers on hold

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a memo ordering all of its offices nationwide to stop releasing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) stickers to clients after the initial registration.

According to the memo dated May 22, 2024, the turnover of the data that should’ve been placed on the RFID was delayed. Hence, the license plate, along with the Original Receipt and Certificate of Registration (OR/CR) will be distributed but without the RFID.

“So as not to delay the delivery of LTO plate to the dealer/owner five (5) working days after the submission of complete registration documents and payment of appropriate fees, it is imperative to distribute the plates separate from the RFID stickers, but together with the Official Receipt (OR) and Certificate of Registration (CR) considering that the turnover of the relevant information needed to be placed on the RFID has been delayed.”

So when will the LTO distribute the RFID associated with the license plate? The LTO says on your next transaction that involves the vehicle.

“Accordingly, effective immediately, all plates shall be released together with the OR and CR. The RFID stickers will be released on the next LTO transaction involving the vehicle.”

Assuming that the vehicle had no traffic violation that needs to be settled with the LTO, this means you will only get your vehicle’s RFID 3 years after you bought it.
