LTO: Over 639K erring motorists caught, more than 29K vehicles impounded in 2024
LTO announces increase in motorists apprehensions, vehicle impounds for 2024
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) continues to be adamant when it comes to apprehending motorists who violate the rules and regulations of the road. Recently, the government agency announced that a total of 639,323 motorists were caught for various violations. This translates to a 20.75% increase in apprehensions compared to 2023.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza III shared that the increase in apprehended motorists was due to the implementation of new strategies and stricter policies when it comes to road safety. Based on the LTO's data, a a total of 529,439 drivers were apprehended in 2023 and Asec Mendoza shared that intensified visibility of the agency's enforcers, in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP), and LGUs, resulted in the increase of apprehensions.
LTO-Calabarzon had the highest number of apprehended motorists with 109,159. Meanwhile, the Cagayan Region followed with 70,855 apprehensions. LTO-Calabarzon also registered a 144.11% increase in the number of apprehensions for 2024 compared to 2023 (44,717 apprehended motorists in 2023 and 109,159 in 2024). Last but not least, LTO-Mimaropa experienced a 120.76% increase in apprehensions; from 14,079 apprehensions in 2023 to 31,081 apprehensions in 2024.
“I commend our enforcers for going the extra mile in enforcing traffic rules and regulations. Most of them even went on duty at night and even in the wee hours in the morning just to enforce the law,” said Mendoza.
Asec Mendoza also shared that a total of 29,709 motor vehicles were impounded in 2024 which translates to a 21.93% increase compared to 2023. Last year, 24,366 vehicles were impounded. Mendoza vowed to sustain the aggressive operations as part of the government's efforts to ensure the safety of all road users.
“Let these results of our operations serve as a reminder to motorists that we will further strengthen our operation to ensure that all motorists follow traffic laws,” added Mendoza.
