Kia Philippines officially launches the Sonet
After plenty of teasers and insider info, Kia Philippines has revealed its newest A-segment crossover SUV. Say annyeong to the 2024 Kia Sonet, and you guessed it, it's the brand's successor to the Stonic. Available in four distinct variants, the Kia Sonet is set to take on the likes of the Toyota Raize in the mini crossover SUV segment.
Starting with its exterior, the 2024 Sonet we get is based on the latest facelift which gives the crossover a more aggressive front fascia. It gets sleek LED headlights in high-grade variants while lesser models come with halogens. All variants get automatic light control along with daytime running lights. The signature tiger-nose grille has been refreshed as well and features a bolder look complete with silver accents.
Around the back, the 2024 Sonet gets eye-catching LED taillights that appear to have been inspired by the Picanto. Generous use of black body cladding throughout the body gives the Sonet a more rugged appearance for extra curb appeal. High-grade versions are fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels while the base model gets 16-inch styled wheel covers that hide steelies. All versions roll on 205/55/R16 tires.
Size-wise, the Sonet measures 4110mm long, 1790mm wide, and 1642mm tall (1625mm tall in the LX variants). The crossover also comes with a 2500mm wheelbase, 205mm of ground clearance, and a turning radius of 5.3 meters.
Hop inside and the 2024 Sonet welcomes you into a cabin inspired by various Hyundai and Kia models. The aircon vents appear to have been inspired by the latest Sorento while the dual digital display looks to have been derived from the Seltos and Hyundai Creta. The top-of-the-line SX comes with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel while the lesser variants get analog gauges with a 4.2-inch multi-info display.
A touchscreen infotainment system sits on the center of the dashboard and supports wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity. The SX variants get a large 10.25-inch screen while the EX and LX models only get a smaller 8-inch display. Audio is then routed to a 6-speaker sound system.
Other available features in the 2024 Sonet include; a three-spoke leather steering wheel, smart keyless entry, remote engine start, a wireless charging pad, automatic climate control (SX variant only), 60:40 split-folding rear seats, and a power sunroof (SX model only).
Under the hood, the Kia Sonet is powered by a 1.5-liter Smartstream G four-cylinder engine. It makes 115 PS at 6300 rpm along with 144 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. It is then paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), Kia's take on a CVT. If the figures and setup look familiar, that's because the Sonet shares its powertrain with the Hyundai Creta and the naturally aspirated version of the Kia Seltos.
Standard safety features available across the range are; dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes, a reverse camera, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and cruise control (none on base LX MT). A suite of intelligent driver aids are equipped on the range-topping SX which include; lane-keeping assist, lane-following assist, forward collision avoidance, downhill brake control, high-beam assist, and a driver attention warning.
Colors available for the 2024 Kia Sonet include; Imperial Blue, Pewter Olive, Snow White Pearl, and Vivid Red. An optional black-painted roof is available for Snow White Pearl and Vivid Red.
