Third-generation Toyota Fortuner supposedly spotted in Thailand

It's been over a decade since Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) launched the second-generation Fortuner. Yes, the Japanese automaker first revealed the latest Fortuner in January 2016, and it has undergone several updates & changes in the last 10 years.

Now that we're in 2026 and the Hilux is now on its ninth-generation, Toyota appears to be busy testing the all-new third-generation Fortuner. This comes after an eagle-eyed social media user was able to spot the supposedly all-new SUV being driven somewhere in The Land of Smiles.

Although only a picture of the rear is available, it appears that the third-generation Fortuner will undergo a major redesign. For starters, it will get a new pair of wraparound LED taillights that will likely be complemented by a full-width light bar. It also appears the all-new Fortuner will get a new tailgate to go along with the new body.

Like the latest Hilux, the all-new Fortuner will likely feature Toyota's “Cyber Sumo” front fascia design. With that, we can perhaps expect the upcoming SUV to feature a more sophisticated appearance, consisting of a large grille, sleek LED headlights & daytime running lights, and an aggressive bumper.

Since the Fortuner is based on the Hilux, the latest model will most likely get the same engine options as the pickup truck. However, the all-new Hilux is now only available with the 2.8L 1GD-FTV turbo-diesel engine that generates 204 PS with 500 Nm of torque (420 Nm of torque with a 6-speed manual). Since TMP gets the Fortuner from Indonesia, we're curious if the latest SUV will continue to be available with the 2.4L 2GD-FTV turbo-diesel once it arrives here.

With the 2026 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) all set this coming March, we're curious if Toyota plans to launch the third-generation Fortuner at the annual motor show in Thailand. For now, all we can do is hope and wait for Toyota to reveal it at BIMS next month.
