GWM Ora 5 is the taller sibling of the Ora 03 EV

GWM may be known for its crossover SUVs, 4x4s like the Tank 300, and pickup trucks via the Cannon lineup. But in case you have forgotten, they are also known for the Ora 03 EV. Also called the Good Cat in other markets, the Ora 03 combines quirky looks with an electric powertrain that can cover nearly 400 km on a single charge.

But with crossover SUVs continuing to be the more popular choice among car buyers, GWM has tasked Ora to build a high-riding version of its stylish EV. Unfortunately for the Chinese automaker, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has revealed the first images (and specs) of GWM's newest Ora EV ahead of its launch.

Say hello to the GWM Ora Cat, and it's the brand's quirky electric crossover that will sit alongside the Ora 03. Also called the Ora 5, the Cat largely resembles the 03 in terms of exterior design. In fact, the headlight & taillight design, as well as the tailgate, appear to have been derived from the Ora 03 EV. But unlike the hatchback, the crossover is larger and taller.

It also comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, a charging port on the right front fender, side air intakes (or cooling ducts) on the front bumper, a trapezoidal intake, and LiDAR sensors placed on the roof.

In terms of size, the Ora Cat measures 4471mm long, 1883mm wide, 1641mm tall, and has a 2720mm wheelbase. It also has a curb weight of around 1630 – 1655 kg, depending on the variant, and approach & departure angles rated at 17 & 25 degrees, respectively.

Powering the Ora Cat is a single electric motor that makes 204 PS and a lithium-iron phosphate battery pack. The battery capacity has yet to be revealed, but other details about the upcoming Ora Cat could be revealed in the coming days.

With crossover SUVs continuing to be the popular choice among car buyers, it's not surprising GWM has decided to make a high-riding version of its popular electric hatchback. The only question now is, will GWM Philippines bring it here?
