Sixth-generation Ford Explorer for PH is due for an update

It's been over three years since Ford Philippines launched the sixth-generation Explorer. It first arrived in late 2021 just before the holidays, and is offered with self-sealing tires for extra peace of mind in case of a puncture.

Fast forward to the middle of 2025, and it looks like Ford Philippines is preparing to bring the refreshed Explorer to the country. This comes after the Land Transportation Office (LTO) released homologation documents for the Explorer Platinum 2.3L 4x4 AT. Yes, Ford has been selling this particular variant since December 2021, but perhaps the Blue Oval is preparing to launch the facelifted version that was first revealed in North America last year.

Based on the LTO document, the Explorer Platinum 2.3L 4x4 AT will be powered by a 2261cc engine, which is the exact displacement of the 2.3L EcoBoost turbocharged inline-four. As before, the inline-four makes 304 PS with 420 Nm of torque and is paired to a 10-speed automatic gearbox.

Size-wise, the supposedly refreshed Explorer measures 5048mm long, 2004mm wide, and 1778mm tall with a 3025mm wheelbase. It also has a minimum ground clearance of 157mm, which is a stark difference compared to the current version that gets 208mm. Last but not least, the 7-seater crossover SUV will come with 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 255/55 series tires.

With the sixth-generation Ford Explorer due for an update, the fact that the LTO released new homologation papers for the midsize SUV likely means the Blue Oval is making the necessary preparations. The only question now is, when can we expect the 2025 Ford Explorer to officially be revealed?
