IDEA 2024 recognizes Hyundai design excellence
Hyundai’s design language continues to gain recognition from award-giving bodies this year.
After garnering awards in the Red Dot and iF design awards, the Hyundai Motor Company achieved remarkable success at the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) 2024, securing multiple prestigious honors.
The company earned a Gold Award for the Ioniq 5 N, a Bronze Award for the Santa Fe, and both the Curator’s Choice Award and Gold Award for the Hyundai Heritage: Retrace Collection Book ‘PONY’.

The Hyundai Heritage: Retrace Collection Book ‘PONY’ was distinguished with the Curator’s Choice Award, a notable accolade given to only one project each year, regardless of category. This book is part of Hyundai Motor’s Heritage Project, which chronicles the company’s journey and underscores how a commitment to humanity underpins its success. The PONY Collection delves into the history of Hyundai’s first mass-produced car, featuring design sketches, development documents, and interviews.
The Ioniq 5 N, which received the Gold Award, represents a groundbreaking high-performance electric vehicle (EV) that leads Hyundai N’s electrification efforts. Celebrated as the 2024 World Performance Car of the Year, the IONIQ 5 N combines racetrack-level performance with advanced technology, leveraging Hyundai Motor Group’s Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and motorsport-derived innovations to achieve exceptional performance.

The all-new Santa Fe, honored with the Bronze Award, embodies Hyundai’s ‘Open for More’ design philosophy. This fifth-generation SUV features an expansive, terrace-like interior with an extended wheelbase and wide tailgate opening, ideal for outdoor adventures. Its bold exterior design includes a distinctive silhouette and striking front-end, while the interior boasts flexible seating, high-tech features, sustainable materials, and colors inspired by natural light to enhance every journey.

In addition to these awards, IDEA 2024 recognized three other Hyundai Motor entries in the Automotive & Transportation category: the Santa Fe XRT Concept, SPACE (Spatial Curated Experience), and Hyundai Motor Group’s Global EV Home Charger.
The Santa Fe XRT Concept, introduced alongside the new Santa Fe in 2023, is designed for adventure, featuring a rugged design with off-road wheels, a durable roof-mounted luggage rack, and ample external storage. It represents the pinnacle of versatility for outdoor enthusiasts.

The SPACE, first showcased at CES 2024, is an innovative public mobility solution that ensures unrestricted travel access for everyone, including those with mobility impairments. Its adaptable interior includes an Adaptive Seat and boarding height control for easy wheelchair access. The SPACE Pavilion repurposes decommissioned modules into a transportable hub, supported by a hydrogen fuel cell system that powers portable batteries and contributes to a smart farm and air-cleaning algae module.
The Hyundai Motor Group Global EV Home Charger is a compact, versatile charging solution for Hyundai EVs, offering a performance range of 7 to 22 kW. It features a space-efficient vertical design, a cable holder for organization, and integrates with an app-based home energy management system. Available in Basic, Connect, and Premium specifications, it caters to various needs and preferences.

Additionally, Hyundai Motor received further accolades: the Hyundai Heritage PONY Project won Gold in the Branding Category, the Sustainable Paper Package Series earned Bronze in the Packing Category, and the Hyundai Multi Lantern was a finalist in the Outdoor & Garden Category.
“We are honored to receive these awards for Hyundai Motor’s significant vehicles and innovations. This recognition serves as a testament to the exceptional dedication exhibited by our team of visionary designers, who poured their unwavering passion and commitment into these projects, working in close collaboration with our engineering colleagues at the R&D Center. It highlights the remarkable competitiveness of Hyundai’s design identity within the global market.” said SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai & Genesis Global Design.
