Prelude Concept to go into production in 2025

Honda is out to get people excited about its upcoming hybrid sports coupe, the Prelude.

The returning nameplate is set to be put into production next year, and it looks like Honda is now busy showcasing the Prelude Concept in countries where it could possibly be offered.

After being shown in Europe (and in Japan), the Prelude Concept tour is now headed to the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show in Malaysia.

This will mark the first time Honda will showcase the hybrid sports coupe concept in Southeast Asia – a market where Honda’s e:HEV technology is currently being rolled out across the brand’s model lineup.

While Honda has yet to reveal the exact specifications of the Prelude, the hybrid-electric coupe will feature an enhanced version of Honda’s e:HEV system found in vehicles like the Civic and CR-V. The 2.0L, four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine is assisted by two synchronous electric motors that run on lithium-ion batteries and runs with a dedicated hybrid transmission that’s tuned to shift differently according to Honda.

With the production Prelude coming out next year as a 2026 model, the showcase of the concept in Southeast Asia could serve as an interest check for Honda as they plan out where to offer the hybrid sports coupe. The 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) is happening from December 5 to 11 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
