Honda Heritage Parts: No more surplus hunting
Restoring a classic Honda just a got a whole lot easier
The limited support for classic Japanese models has long made restorations challenging, forcing enthusiasts to hunt for rare parts or rely on custom fabrication
Unlike classic American or European cars, which benefit from extensive aftermarket support for restoration parts, classic Japanese cars have historically faced a shortage of readily available components. This struggle is familiar to any Honda enthusiast who has been forced to rely on surplus used parts and hunt auction sites for brand-new old stock components, which largely depend on sheer luck and spending power.
The good news is that this challenge may soon be greatly reduced, as Honda plans to launch its Honda Heritage Works program by next year. This Japan-exclusive program will consist of two services: Honda Heritage Parts, which will reproduce and supply certain discontinued genuine parts that are no longer in mass production, and Honda Restoration Service, which aims to fully or partially restore customer vehicles utilizing the reproduced parts. Both programs will start with the first-generation NSX, with plans to expand to other classic sport-type models in the future.
Honda Heritage Parts
We’re all aware that Honda continues to provide genuine parts well after a vehicle model is no longer in production. However, for owners of certain classic Hondas, such as the NSX and S2000, sourcing parts can be quite challenging. This is where Honda’s solution comes in, which is the Honda Heritage Parts. This program includes Genuine Honda Heritage Compatible Parts and Genuine Honda Heritage Reproduction Parts, ensuring continued support for classic Honda vehicles.
Genuine Honda Heritage Compatible Parts
These are newly redeveloped and reproduced parts to replace original parts that are no longer available for sale by Honda. They worked closely with parts suppliers, infusing technological advancements and the adoption of new materials and manufacturing methods.
Genuine Honda Heritage Reproduction Parts
These parts will be reproduced using the same materials and production methods that were used for the original parts.
Globally Available
Both types of reproduction parts will be available globally in the Honda Heritage Parts lineup. A list of available Honda Heritage Parts will be posted on the official Honda Heritage Works website and updated as new parts are added. The good news is that all Honda Heritage Parts will also be available globally for purchase through the same distribution channels as other standard Honda genuine parts in each country.
The launch of Honda Heritage Works will significantly strengthen Honda’s after-sales services, and more importantly, provide an alternative solution for owners of classic Honda models who are restoring or simply maintaining their vehicles.
