All-new Chery QQ Duomi is a mini EV for the masses

Remember when Chery announced last week they will be bringing back the QQ as an EV? Well, someone has beaten Chery for the big reveal – China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Before any automaker can launch or reveal a brand-new vehicle, the country's MIIT has to check its specifications and release the initial images of the upcoming model. Unfortunately for Chery, this meant their big surprise was already out in the open before its official unveiling.

Kaiyi Shiyue Mate

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the Chery QQ Duomi, and serves as the brand's latest affordable vehicle. While it may look like Chery designed it from the ground up, the automaker sought help from one of its sub-brands. The Chery QQ Duomi is actually a rebadged Kaiyi Shiyue Mate – a five-door electric econobox that can sit alongside the Chery/Jetour QQ Ice Cream EV.

Back to the Chery QQ Duomi, the mini electric hatchback features sharp LED headlights, a distinct front bumper, 15-inch wheels with 165/65 tires, blacked-out A, B, and C-pillars, a massive glass panel on the roof, full-width LED taillights, and 'Qq' badge both on the front and rear of the vehicle.

Size-wise, the QQ Duomi measures 3720mm long, 1700mm wide, 1599mm tall, and has a 2520mm wheelbase. This makes it bigger than the Ice Cream EV and also roomier thanks to its longer dimensions and more generous wheelbase. Its exact powertrain specifications have yet to be revealed in full although it was listed to have a 40 kW or 54 PS electric motor. Its battery capacity also remains to be a mystery.

With the 2025 Auto Shanghai set this coming April, perhaps we'll know more about the Chery QQ Duomi once it's fully revealed to the public.
