New 2.4L turbo-diesel engine to be available soon on Tank 300
We already have had the Tank 300 for quite some time now. It has a proper frame-based chassis along with front & rear locking differentials. But unlike most 4x4 SUVs, the Tank 300 gets a 2.0L turbocharged gasoline engine. It makes a respectable 217 PS with 380 Nm of torque and is paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
Despite having smoother power delivery, some 4x4 enthusiasts still prefer the extra oomph (and frugality) of a turbo-diesel engine. Luckily, it looks like we may get it here soon in the Philippines. That's because GWM is set to reveal the turbo-diesel version of the Tank 300 in Thailand.

While some might say the Tank 300 will get the Cannon's 2.0L turbo-diesel, that will not be the case. Instead, GMW will use the much bigger 2.4L turbo-diesel inline-four derived from the Poer pickup trucks. It comes with variable geometry turbo (VGT) to reduce turbo lag and makes 181 PS at 3600 rpm with 480 Nm of torque between 1500 – 2300 rpm.
It may be slightly down on horsepower but the turbo-diesel Tank 300 makes more pulling power. Power is then transferred to a 9-speed automatic gearbox which replaces the 8-speed found on the turbo-gasoline. Like the turbo-gas version, the turbo-diesel variant will come with a 4WD system with multi-terrain modes, front & rear locking differentials, and other off-road goodies.

The turbo-diesel Tank 300 will officially make its regional debut at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) later this month. With that, we're hoping GWM Philippines brings the new 2.4L turbo-diesel engine here in the near future.
