Geely launches Haoyue L with 1.5T: Is this the new Okavango for PH?

This could make Geely a contender in the mid-size SUV segment

Geely has refreshed the Haoyue L (aka the Okavango L) in China as competition heats up in its segment, where flexible seating layouts and affordable entry pricing remain key factors for family buyers.

The latest update to the Haoyue L features a new 1.5-liter turbo engine, keeping the model firmly positioned in the mid-size SUV class. The new 1.5T delivers 180 PS and 290 Nm, paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch gearbox that drives the front wheels. Geely retains the familiar suspension setup: MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link system at the rear.

On the outside, the Haoyue L receives a cleaner, more angular look. The polygonal grille has been reshaped, the bumpers get a more pronounced profile, and the larger decorative vents help widen its stance. Geely’s signature vertical grille texture remains. The SUV still measures 4,865 mm long, 1,910 mm wide, 1,770 mm tall, with a 2,825-mm wheelbase. Four new body colors are available, and wheel sizes range from 19 inches on most variants to 20 inches on the top trims.

Inside, the cabin revisions follow the model’s family-focused brief with soft-touch surfaces and, more importantly, expanded seating configurations. The Haoyue L can now be specified in five-, six-, or seven-seat layouts. The six-seat version swaps the conventional bench for two captain’s chairs with heating, ventilation, and massage. With the optional third row folded flat, cargo space maxes out at 2,050 liters.

Tech gets a notable bump as well. A 14.6-inch infotainment display and a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel dominate the dashboard, running the Flyme Auto software suite with smartphone integration and online navigation. Two interior color schemes are offered. Higher variants add L2-grade driver assists, including adaptive cruise, forward-collision alerts, lane-keeping functions, and a 540-degree camera system with an under-body view.

Introduced in 2020, the Haoyue nameplate has served as Geely’s contender in the mid-size SUV space, and the 2026 update doubles down on flexibility with more seating choices and a temporarily lowered entry price. Its key rivals remain the Chery Tiggo 8, Jetour X70 series, Haval H6L, and other similarly sized gasoline SUVs in the segment.

With the refreshed Geely Haoyue L / Okavango now in the PRC, can we expect a local launch to happen sometime next year?
