After being previewed at the 2024 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) earlier this year, a stylish turbocharged (and upgraded) MPV has made its comeback. This is the 2024 MG G50 Plus, and it wants to take on the likes of the GAC M6 Pro and Toyota Innova Zenix.

Before we delve further into the G50 Plus, let’s talk about what’s under the hood. Powering the G50 Plus is (you guessed it) a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. But unlike the model Maxus brought into the country, the MG version packs a bit more power along with a new transmission. Instead of putting out 169 PS with 250 Nm of torque, the upgraded inline-four now makes 181 PS along with 285 Nm of pull. In addition, its recommended fuel is 95 octane.

The engine is then paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission or a 6-speed manual. But wait a moment, didn’t the Maxus G50 also have the same dual-clutch gearbox? Well, instead of a dry dual-clutch, MG Philippines used a wet dual-clutch transmission to give the MPV smoother gear changes in both city and highway driving. The automaker even replaced the traditional gear selector on the center console with an electronic column shifter ala Mercedes-Benz. The result is a center console with more space.

In terms of size, the MG G50 Plus measures 4825mm long, 1825mm wide, 1778mm tall, and has a 2800mm wheelbase. The STD and COM variants can seat 8 people while the top-of-the-line LUX version comes with captain seats in the second row, making it a 7-seater MPV.

Style-wise, the G50 Plus looks just like the G50 Maxus used to offer. It gets a chrome grille at the front, sleek LED daytime running lights & headlights (halogens on lower variants), eye-catching LED taillights, a massive tailgate, power-folding side mirrors, and a choice between 16-inch or 17-inch alloy wheels, depending on the variant.

Hop aboard the G50 Plus and the MPV is available in various seating configurations. The entry-level and mid-grade variants are available as an 8-seater while the top-of-the-line offering is exclusively a 7-seater thanks to the captain seats on the second row. Depending on the variant, the G50 Plus can come with fabric seats or synthetic leather upholstery. MG even threw in a leather-wrapped steering wheel for good measure.
