Blaze in FIT Industrial Park in Tanauan City damages factories, destroys over 200 cars

UPDATE as of 11:45 AM, April 7, 2025: MG Philippines has confirmed that several MG3 Hybrid and MG4 EVs were affected by the fire in FIT, Tanauan City, Batangas.

Yesterday, April 6, 2025, firefighters responded to a massive fire at the First Industrial Township (FIT) Special Economic Zone in Tanauan City, Batangas. The fire supposedly started in one of the factories that make processed foods and edible oils.

The blaze damaged two factories around 1:00 PM yesterday spread to a nearby logistics warehouse; and in addition, a vehicle stockyard was also affected by the blaze.

The burnt cars are from MG Philippines, which they confirmed recently. Several examples of the MG3 Hybrid and the MG4 EV were affected by the fire, although the automaker stated that the lithium-ion batteries did not combust despite the heat generated by the blaze.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), they were able to declare the fire out around 3:00 PM, and no injuries or fatalities were reported. However, the cause of the fire is still being investigated by the BFP and other authorities.

Reports have indicated that around 200 cars were lost due to the fire. With that, the affected automaker may have to check their inventory and delay customer deliveries should the affected vehicles already be spoken for.
