Facelift or all-new? 2020 Isuzu D-Max spied

2020 Isuzu D-Max currently under development

The current-generation Isuzu D-Max has been around since 2012 and was introduced in the local market in late 2013. That means the pick-up is now at seven years old already and, throughout the years, it has received several updates. This time around, it looks like Isuzu will soon be unveiling a new one soon.

Spied in the snowy regions of Europe, the 2020 Isuzu D-Max was caught undergoing extreme weather testing. Still wearing heavy camouflage, there are some cues showing that it could be either an all-new model or a heavy facelift like the 2019 Mitsubishi Strada/Triton.

At the front, the nose appears to be flatter, and more upright than the current iteration. It also appears that it will have a bigger grill and a more substantial-looking front apron. Headlights on the other hand look slimmer than the D-Max of the present. However, it does still follow the U-shaped LED daytime running light pattern. This does suggest that the changes will be evolutionary, rather than revolutionary.

There are more supporting details when viewed from the side. The doors for instance appear slightly larger than before, suggesting a growth in dimensions. Of interest are the rear doors which now have a bit more angles than before. Also, the bed seems taller than the second-generation D-Max. Another thing worth noting is the location of the fuel door, which is set lower. As for the rear, the tail lights don’t look that different from the present D-Max, but that could change once the production pickup is fully revealed. 

This is the first time the 2020 D-Max was spied so spec information is unavailable. However, it is possible that the engine range could be carried over from the present D-Max. The 1.9-liter BluePower turbodiesel is a new engine so it’s unlikely that it will be replaced. The 3.0-liter on the other hand could get a power upgrade, but nothing is set in stone at the time of writing.
