DPWH: 102-ton dump truck was on Isabela bridge during collapse

An unfortunate incident occurred last night in Isabela when the 60-meter 3rd span of the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge along Cabagan Sta. Maria Road collapsed.
The incident happened when a dump truck carrying boulders with a calculated weight gross vehicle weight (GVW) of around 102 tons passed on the 3rd span of the bridge. Based on initial reports, at least seven individuals were injured in the collapse while two others remain missing including the truck driver. Meanwhile, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) shared that aside from the dump truck, two SUVs and one motorcycle were also damaged in the incident.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has since released a statement about last night's collapse. The agency said the construction of the Cabagan-Sta. Maria Bridge began on November 2024 and was completed on February 1, 2025, with a total cost of over PHP 1.225 billion (Bridge and Approaches).
The bridge itself has a total length of 990 meters and consists of 12 arch bridges with a span of 60 meters and nine spans of pre-stressed concrete girders Type IVB. Last but not least, the contractor for the bridge is R.D. Interior, Jr. Construction.
The agency has requested experts from the Bureau of Design and Bureau of Construction in the Central Office to conduct further evaluation and assessment of the bridge collapse.
Until then, authorities have advised motorists to find alternate routes as parts of the bridge remain collapsed and are under investigation.
