Thousands of driver's licenses suspended, hundreds revoked by LTO

Staying true to its word about its serious campaign for Road Safety, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), together with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), announced that more than two thousand drivers have been issued with Show Cause Order (SCO) letters, and more than 400 drivers have been stripped off their driving privileges due to grave traffic violations.

According to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, the LTO has already issued 2,008 SCOs in the last six months, while 420 driver’s licenses were already revoked by the agency.

Never in the history of LTO and DOTr na ganito kadami ang sinuspinde [at] ni-revoke. Never. At hindi kami hihinto. ‘Kala nyo hihinto kami? Hindi kami hihinto dito,” said Sec. Dizon.

Sec. Dizon also thanked law-abiding motorists for their contributions to the road safety campaign. He noted that without their vigilant reporting and the videos and photos of unruly drivers posted on social media, the agency would be unable to effectively serve show cause orders and hold violators responsible.

LTO Chief, Atty. Vigor Mendoza II added that the agency’s aggressive campaign against traffic violators is projected to serve as many as 5,000 SCOs by the end of 2025.

The DOTr in May declared war on unruly drivers as part of its efforts to make our roads safe for everyone. At the time, Sec. Dizon ordered the LTO Chief to automatically impose a 90-day suspension on the driver’s licenses of those caught on video (or photos) violating traffic rules, without due process.
