BMW M reveals new details of its high-performance EV; could this be the M3 EV?
Since last year, our spy photographers have been able to take pictures of what could most likely be the M3 EV. For those not in the know, BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel confirmed back in October 2024 that the next-generation M3 EV will be offered with both internal combustion (ICE) and EV variants.
Based on what our spy photographers were able to capture on two separate occasions (August 2025 & January 2026), the upcoming M3 EV will feature the brand's Neue Klasse design and is rumored to crank out between 700 PS and 1,360 PS thanks to a (supposed) quad motor system.

Fast forward to the New Year, BMW has released new pictures (and details) about its next-generation of fully-electric BMW M models. One of those vehicles is this, a camouflaged M vehicle that BMW has yet to name. The automaker shared that the future model generation will embody the DNA of the high-performance brand and will advance the distinct BMW M driving experience. Its fully electric drivetrain will also redefine the brand's dynamics that will combine driving pleasure with racetrack capability.
"The next generation of models are set to establish a new benchmark in the high-performance vehicle segment. With the latest generation of Neue Klasse technology, we are taking the BMW M driving experience to a new level and will inspire our customers with outstanding, racetrack-ready driving dynamics for everyday use," said van Meel.
BMW did not say whether the mystery vehicle is the upcoming M3 EV. But based on its looks and shape, it's more than likely the mystery EV from BMW M.

Back to the EV's technologies, it will be powered by the BMW M eDrive, which is based on the BMW Gen6 technology of the Neue Klasse. Each wheel will be powered by an electric motor, which means there will be two motors in the front and an additional two in the rear. BMW is not yet ready to reveal official output figures, but they did say that each motor can deliver optimum traction and maximum energy recuperation right up to the limit.
The quad-motor system also translates to combining the advantages of an AWD vehicle and a RWD car for enhanced driving dynamics on the road or on the racetrack. The front axle can even be decoupled for increased range, better efficiency, and a more fun-to-drive experience, should the driver choose to. To preserve the signature BMW M driving experience, the electric model will have selectable drive modes, simulated gear shifts, and a newly-developed soundscape.

A high-voltage 100 kWh battery pack will supply power to the electric drivetrain and serve as a structural component that's connected to the front & rear axles. This translates to improved structural rigidity that also leads to better driving dynamics.
With the supposed M3 EV already being spotted since last year and BMW M now releasing the initial details and official camouflaged photos of its newest high-performance EV, we're hoping the long-rumored M3 EV will make its official debut soon.
