iCar V23 by Chery is a stylish subcompact electric 4x4

Remember when we saw Chery's iCar GT EV concept last year? Combining supercar-like looks with an all-electric powertrain, the sleek concept car looks to go up against other all-electric sports cars and other GT vehicles.

Fast forward to the present day, Chery's EV subsidiary has revealed a new vehicle that is set to deliver an EV experience while going off the beaten path. Say hello to the iCar V23 EV, and yes it's an all-electric off-road vehicle.

Recently revealed in the PRC, the iCar V23 is the first model that was jointly developed with Xiaomi subsidiary Zhimi Technology – a company that specializes in smart home appliances and now plays a vital role in Chery's new energy vehicles (NEVs). Back to the vehicle itself, the iCar V23 features a boxy design that appears to take inspiration from other off-roaders like the Suzuki Jimny, the Land Rover Defender, and even the Toyota Land Cruiser.

It measures 4220mm long, 1915mm wide, 1845mm tall, and has a generous 2730mm wheelbase. Since it doesn't have an engine under the hood, engineers were able to maximize interior space. In addition, the V23 has an approach angle of 43 degrees and a departure angle of 41 degrees for better off-road capability. Last but not least, the AWD version of the vehicle comes with 212mm of ground clearance.

As for its electric hardware, the iCar V23 is available with either a single motor or a pair of them – delivering AWD capability. Official specs are not yet available but the automaker did say that it's capable of traveling between 400 km to 500 km on a full charge. The battery pack will be supplied by leading supplier CATL.

The 4x4 can be specified with 19 to 21-inch wheels and even comes with additional equipment like raised bumpers, prominent fender flares, external storage for storing items, running boards, and a roof rack.

Other details about the iCar V23 will be revealed soon closer to its official market launch later this year. What we're more curious about, however, is whether could Chery make this vehicle available outside of the People's Republic. With 4x4s and overlanding becoming more popular with motorists, perhaps Chery could capitalize on this.
