Chengdu 2024: ROX Motor is bringing this off-road hybrid SUV to PH
Rox 01 is a range extended all-terrain EV SUV
Range-extended EVs (REVs) have started to make their way to the Philippine market, offering the best of what electrification can do in terms of range. Soon, a startup brand from the PRC that’s setting up operations in the Philippines will offer range-extended capabilities to a luxury SUV.
ROX Motor has revealed the Rox 01 range extended all-terrain EV SUV at the 2024 Chengdu International Motor Show in China. With the brand having aspirations for combining comfort, luxury, and all-terrain capability, the Rox 01 is targeted for those who enjoy going on camping trips and exploring the great outdoors.
At the Chengdu International Motor Show, the ROX 01 was unveiled with the Fishing Master and Offroad Camping Concepts, featuring distinct outdoor accessories designed to make the best use of what the ROX 01 is as an adventure vehicle. The SUV features the classic boxy styling normally associated with rugged 4x4 SUVs such as the latest Land Rover Defender, while getting some unique styling cues of its own like the thin inverted L-shaped LED light strips that make up the headlights and the taillights.
In terms of its off-road angles, the ROX 01 has an approach angle of 22.2 degrees, a departure angle of 25.1 degrees, and a maximum climbing angle of 45 degrees. The ground clearance of the batteries is at 255mm, and it has a rated maximum water wading depth of 700mm.
Depending on the trim level, the ROX 01 is available in either a 6 or 7-seat configuration inside, with captain seats on the second row. But whichever it is that you choose, the ROX 01 features a luxurious cabin draped in Nappa leather on the Zero Gravity aviation seats, with interior trims made of natural wood grain texture from white oak. The dashboard features multiple large screens for the digital instrument panel, infotainment, as well as the climate system for the luxury SUV.
Camping enthusiasts will be happy to read that the innovative tailgate kitchen system enhances convenience by seamlessly integrating cooking facilities into the rear of the vehicle. This system includes organized tableware storage, high-power three-hole sockets, LED portable lighting, and an intelligent temperature-controlled water system.
Additionally, the ROX 01 is equipped with a dual 2.2kW external power system, more commonly known as a V2L or Vehicle-to-Load function. This provides ample power for electronic appliances such as an induction cooker, coffee machine, or a small refrigerator for your camping needs. For towing purposes, the ROX 01 has a rated towing capacity of 750 kg, making it more than capable of towing small campers, motorboats, and other trailer equipment used for outdoor adventures.
The ROX 01 has a three-in-one high-efficiency electric drive system that consists of front and rear electric motors, plus a 1.5L four-cylinder turbo engine as a range extender/generator. The system has an impressive combined output of 476 PS and 740 Nm of torque. Powering the two electric motors in the long-range version is a 58.4 kWh ternary lithium battery that gives up to 306 km of electric driving range while the 70-liter fuel capacity of the range extender allows the ROX 01 to have a total driving range of up to 1,362 km in one tank (100% battery, full tank of fuel).
For its off-road tech toys, the ROX 01 has a terrain management system, variable damping shock absorbers, an advanced off-road cruise mode, and an intelligent water-crossing system to tackle challenging terrains with ease. Lastly, the ROX 01 has a sheet full of intelligent safety features for its ADAS system for a convenient and protected drive.
Along with the Philippines, ROX Motor has already signed distribution agreements with partners from Qatar, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, and Egypt to begin establishing sales channels for the international market, meaning that local units of the ROX 01 could soon begin to arrive in the coming months.
